About Dr. O'Connell

Graduated UCC medical school 1984 , did hospital and GP training scheme in Cork . Worked as a family physician in rural Canada 1989 – 91. Worked in China and the Middle East before joining his wife in practice in Douglas in 1993.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT ; please email us (corkvisamedicals@gmail.com your UCI/IME # and your mobile #. We will then call you back .

If you have not already lodged an application with IRCC , or do not have an IME/UMI we can do an “upfront medical” . This involves us creating a new IRCC casefile for you and therefore is usually used if you dont have a pre-existing file .

What to bring with you to appointment ;

  • Consultant’s reports if any medical problems now or in the past.
  • Prescription medications and spectacles (if any).
  • Current passport (plus passport used on application, if different).

Covid Vaccine Record ; If you have had your Covid vaccination please bring your vaccines record card or any other evidence

  • A physical examination is required so female candidates who wish to see a female doctor should let us know when they are making the appointment. Breast or genital exam is not required .

Payment for the medical: €300 per adult and €180 (approx) per child. If further visits are required, further fees will apply. A non refundable deposit of 100€ is required to hold your appointment .

Check with Affidea re separate fee for x ray (usually 160 euro ).

For women:

Chaperones ; if you require a chaperone during the medical exam , please let us know in advance . You will need to undress down to your underclothes . Breast exam is not usually required .

Blood Tests: Blood tests are required for HIV , syphilis and kidney function ( creatinine ). These will be taken at the time of the examination.

RE: CHEST X-RAY
Most candidates over age 11 are required to have a chest x-ray to rule out TB. The panel doctor will give you a referral note for the chest x-ray.

You will need to get your chest X-ray done in Affidea Radiology Centre which is a short distance from our clinic . An appointment is not normally required for the x-ray .
